Directors profiles

Managing Director: Ian Dugmore

Ian qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1991 with Coopers & Lybrand and was admitted into the Chartered Institute of Taxation in 1992. Ian worked for a number of large local accountancy practices in the North West before joining Ainsworths in 1998. Ian became a Partner in the following year and was appointed managing Director in 2003.

He deals with a varied portfolio of clients including corporate clients and he specialises in not for profit and charitable organisations.


Director: Mel Henry

Mel joined Ainsworths in July 2002 and became a Partner on 1st May 2004. Mel deals with a diverse portfolio of clients from small sole traders and Directorships to companies with turnovers in excess of £4 million.

Prior to joining Ainsworths, Mel worked for BDO Stoy Hayward in Manchester and Liverpool. Prior to working for BDO Stoy Hayward Mel worked for a five-Director firm in North London, where he managed a diverse portfolio of clients that included sole traders, Directorships and owner-managed limited companies up to £25 million turnover.

Mel has extensive experience in all areas of audit, accounts and both company and personal tax. Mel specialises in due diligence.


Technical Director: Paul Carney

Paul qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1978 with a small Burnley firm. Subsequent experience included 8 years with Price Waterhouse and 2 years with Coopers & Lybrand before joining Ainsworths, where he became a Partner in 1990.

Paul is in charge of audit compliance and deals with technical aspects of audit clients. He acts primarily for corporate clients with turnovers which range from £0.5 million to in excess of £40 million.


Director: Julia Storey

Julia joined Ainsworths in January 2003 and has headed up the tax department since November 2003.

Julia qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Coopers & Lybrand and became a Chartered Tax Advisor in 1990. After leaving Coopers & Lybrand in 1993 to start a family she worked for two small practices, one in Yorkshire and one in Lancashire, before joining Ainsworths.

As well as having her own portfolio of personal tax clients, Julia also provides technical support and tax advice to the other directors and their business and private individual clients. She specialises in estate planning and capital gains tax advice.
